We want to let all of our booked guests know that because of the current CDC, State of California, and City of San Francisco recommendations that all tour activity has been cancelled until the first week of June. We are taking this extraordinary step because the safety and health of our guests, our guides, and our tour partners is our highest priority. Prospective guests may continue to book for future dates for tours that are scheduled for June 1, 2020, or beyond. If you have questions please write to us at email@example.com.
When tours resume, we will be doing our best to institute the best possible precautions to ensure the health and safety of everyone. We will be limiting group sizes to significantly smaller groups of 8 guests. This will allow our guests and guides to practice social distancing without having unwieldy group sizes. Guests who are couples or families who reside together will be exempt from distancing requirements amongst themselves. Our guides will be wearing masks. We will leave it up to guests to decide whether or not they want to wear masks (subject, of course, to local ordinances). In most cases where we have a restaurant tour partner, we will again make sure to maintain social distancing. For tour partners with very small locations, we will have our samples individually packaged and distribute them outside. Guests will be encouraged to visit tour partner locations as long as social distancing requirements can be met. To the best of our knowledge all of our tour partners are still functioning, but that is subject to change. If there are significant changes in tours, we will update the appropriate tour page and contact those who have already booked tours regarding the changes.
We’ve been running food tours since 2007 and know how important it is to get all the details right. You won’t sit around waiting for your food to arrive. You won’t get lost finding the meeting location. We run through all the details beforehand so that you can sit back and enjoy.
We never take more than 14 people on a tour and most of our tours are capped at 12. You’ll get more attention and more space. All our tours are 3 hours, which is longer than most other tours, because we know that’s what it takes to fully experience a neighborhood.
You won’t leave our tours hungry! On bargain basement food tours, you’ll settle on slivers for samples. We give over 20 pieces of chocolate on our Chocolate Tour and generous portions on our food tours. Our guests often finish with goodies boxed up to enjoy later.
You’ll be welcomed warmly by the shops and restaurants we visit. They are our partners and many of them have worked with us since 2007. In many cases, you’ll have the opportunity to speak directly to shop owners and managers as if you lived in the neighborhood. You’ll enjoy a tasting experience that just isn’t possible for the average customer.
Bargain basement tour companies think it’s all about eating and neglect to share the history of each neighborhood. We are obsessed with history and love sharing stories about the Gold Rush, the Barbary Coast, the Napa floods and Japantown. We research each neighborhood and tour partner thoroughly. You won’t find any SF guides better informed than ours.
Gourmet Walks is based in the Bay Area. Our San Francisco guides live in the city, and many were born and raised here. We know and love our city, from its dive bars to its 5 star white tablecloth restaurants. Our Napa guides live in Napa. They grow their own grapes, they visit vineyards on the weekends and they can tell you where to eat this weekend.
Here is a sampling of our valuable tour partners in San Francisco and Napa. Along with your Gourmet Walks tour guide, they will ensure your tour is memorable and delicious!
